Music Notes Academy was established in 2000
Brandon Kurzawa began teaching drum lessons in the student's homes in Bridgewater, Branchburg and Hillsborough,
New Jersey. Then we were called Kurzawa School of Music, not as catchy as Music Notes Academy. Brandon changed
the name in 2005 and in 2007 made Music Notes Academy his full-time pursuit to offer comprehensive music
instruction to students on all instruments.
Trial lessons and interviews are available with the Academy Director
Not sure about music lessons with us? You can have a trial lesson, meet with our Director at our East Brunswick, NJ
school or speak with him over the phone for more information. Trial lessons are $50, the phone call is free.
Student - Teacher Matching
You can choose your teacher from our teachers page or we will match you with a qualified teacher. Some of our
teachers have a waiting list for new students though. However, all of our teachers have significant teaching experience
which enables us as a leader in teaching private music lessons.
Qualified and dedicated music instructors
Our teachers studied music collegiately and have at minimum, an undergraduate degree in unique areas of study.
Some of us have masters degrees as well and we all work professionally in music, whether it's performing, teaching,
recording, producing or writing. We actually all enjoy teaching music and consider teaching music a priority within our
music careers.
Comprehensive music lessons in the student's home - Our Teacher Travels To Your House!
Students and parents can avoid driving to us for music lessons. Your teacher can travel to your house for your weekly
music lesson. Our in-home music students receive the same comprehensive instruction and can still perform in our
annual concerts.
Monthly commitments
Certain community schools and music instruction providers require a semester or 26 lesson commitment or longer.
We require that you give us at least a monthly commitment for in-home lessons and either a monthly or semester
commitment for lessons at our school. In order to maintain quality teachers, we need to have a small commitment
from the students and parents. Additionally, to really give learning a music a college try, a semester or longer
commitment is recommended.
Make-up lessons available for student absences and instructor absences
Certain community schools and music instruction providers do not offer make-up lessons anymore. We still do.
Students receive 3 make-up lessons per academic school year if they are registered with Program 3: Whole Notes.
Students receive 3 make-up lessons per academic school year if they are registered with Program 4: East Brunswick.
Annual Winter Concerts
In December of 2009, we began offering annual Winter Concerts for our students. Our Winter Concerts take place in
Madison, New Jersey. Students can perform Holiday music and their favorite classical, jazz or rock music.
Annual Spring Student Recitals
Our student recitals take place in an auditorium, on stage with a grand piano, stage lighting and PA system. Students
receive performance awards and trophies for their hard work and talents and have a chance to see our bands and
ensembles perform as well. Some schools have recitals in small stuffy rooms with florescent lighting or in church
basements, we like to have ours on a big stage.
Piano students are eligible for New Jersey Music Educators Association Piano Evaluations
MEA offers piano students a great opportunity to receive performance opportunities as well as critique from highly
regarded adjudicators. We always encourage our piano students to participate in this unique opportunity as Music
Notes Academy is a member school.
We sell instructional method books, sheet music and musical instruments
Students and parents do not have to travel to music stores to purchase instructor requested materials, everything
comes to you - the teacher and your instructional materials. We also sell and rent select musical instruments and
accessories as well as offer instrument repairs.
We offer instrument repairs and guitar servicing
We have certified technicians on staff that repair our students' instruments. For our guitar students we offer a loaner
guitar, if one is available, while the guitar is being serviced. It's a free loaner instrument too.
Rock Bands In addition to in-home music lessons and in-studio lessons, we also offer group classes, ensembles
and rock bands, currently on Saturdays, throughout the school year. A great opportunity for students, we strongly
believe that students should also perform with other students in addition to private instruction.
Our Teachers Will Help Students With Their Music
Our students have successfully auditioned for jazz bands, school musicals, college auditions, music competitions,
marching bands and some students have started their own bands! Our teachers will work with students on music of
their choice in addition to our curricular objectives. We approach teaching music as a balance.
