original rock band
Original Rock Band is a combination of performing rock songs, learning how to write original
songs (as a band) and learning how to record (as a band) using Pro Tools software.
Students should have an interest in learning cover songs, writing songs and learning how to
record their original music using Pro Tools with an instructor. Contact us for more information
on this very unique band!
Many middle school and high school students seek participation with their school Jazz Bands.
In many school districts, competition is common and students are required to audition for
their school Jazz Band. Music Notes Academy now offers Rhythm Section Workshop, which is
designed to introduce students to Jazz repertoire and prepare students for Jazz band
auditions. Contact us for more information on this new group class!
Students are accepted into our bands and ensembles based on the approval of
the student's instructor or by auditioning with the Academy director. Students
are encouraged to register for ensembles and bands throughout the school
year and summer as group performance opportunities commendably
compliment our weekly private music instruction programs.
Auditions are required for non-Music Notes Academy students. Yes, our bands
and ensembles are open to students who are not currently studying music with
Music Notes Academy.
Music Notes Academy's Rock Band I, Beginner, will improve each student's performance skills
and techniques within a group setting. Instruction will focus on learning classic and

This was our very first Academy ensemble which started in 2007. Students will perform classical and
hand drumming repertoire using a variety of percussion instruments such as snare drums, cymbals,
marimba/xylophone, orchestral bells, bongos, djembes and more! Students will learn about various
percussion instruments, correct performance techniques and learn to perform within a group setting.
Our Percussion Ensemble performs live, on stage, in our Annual Winter Concerts and Annual Spring
Student Recitals.
Grind out the pumping rhythms and slamming drums of the punk and pop punk era. This
band will focus on playing music from early punk to today's pop punk and emo bands.
Songs performed will depend on the student's proficiency and current playing ability.
Students will enhance their performance as a band, learn essential techniques associated
with Punk Rock music, study relevant music theory and learn about the business of music
and what it takes to be in a band...

Music Notes Academy Receives 5 Stars!

Theory & Technique Each Rock Band and Jazz Band learns about music theory related to their
performance repertoire. The theory lessons offer theoretical concepts used in the recorded versions
of the songs and are complimentary to regular music theory studies.
Learning Groove & Styles Learning grooves and styles develop rhythmic awareness, enhanced
group dynamics and sensitivity to performing with a band. All students will learn about groove and
specific styles related to each performance song.
Music Reading Scores or lead sheets, for each song, are provided for each student. Music reading is
an important part of group performance; students are encouraged to develop musically while having
structure within the reading applications.
Practice Routines Practicing at home is crucial to the success of the band as a whole. Students are
required to practice band repertoire daily and meet the requirements set forth by our syllabus and
the instructor's expectations. Our teachers assist our students who participate with our bands in their
weekly music lessons.
Students should develop well-rounded practicing habits that include theory, rhythm exercises,
reading, technique and improvisation and analysis of each song. Developing a meaningful and
multifaceted practice routine, with the assistance and guidance of our music teachers, will enable
significant success for each student and the band.
