Barry has been playing piano since the age of five. While in high school he was a
member of the Jazz Band where he performed for the great trombonist Slide
Hampton. He attended the Governor's School for the Performing Arts with a
concentration in Jazz Piano. He was also a member of the Philadelphia Jazz
Orchestra from 2005 - 2006 where he performed at numerous Jazz venues
including Zanibar Blue in Philadelphia. Additionally in 2006, Barry was part of the
Piano Dedication Concert at Burlington Township Performing Arts Center where he
performed as part of a multi-keyboard ensemble and soloist under the direction of
Stanley Cowell.

Barry has accompanied many pit orchestras for various musicals and is currently
working on composing a full-length musical. Recently, he served as the musical
director for a production of
Seussical. While studying at Mason Gross School of the
Arts at Rutgers University, Barry was the pianist for the award-winning Scarlet
Knights Jazz Trombones and the Rutgers University Ensemble which performed at
the Blue Note in New York City. Barry enjoys teaching music because he wants to
pass on the knowledge of this universal art form that many others have bestowed
upon him. Barry joined Music Notes Academy in September of 2008.
The teaching faculty, or teaching team, of Music Notes Academy,
appearing in alphabetical order, is comprised of artist teachers,
performing musicians, college professors and public and private
school educators who all have unique and specialized musical
backgrounds. The teaching
staff continues to grow in part to our
core teachers who have shown dedication and inspiration for our
students over the years, thus allowing for the need of additional
teachers.

Music Notes Academy music teachers are university and
conservatory educated musicians who are committed to delivering
educational excellence to all students via a comprehensive and
sequential curriculum centered and focused towards each student’s
learning styles, musical goals, interests and aspirations. Our
Director is actively involved in each teacher's instructional
approaches and offers guidance, support and training for teachers.

Our teachers travel to the student's home and/or teach at our East
Brunswick, NJ music school. Our students learn music within a
comprehensive music curriculum, which offers unique instructional
approaches and content to match each student's age, ability and
musical goals. All teachers may not appear on our website.
Christopher is no stranger to the music industry with 23 years experience performing, teaching,
producing, mixing and working in the music business. Chris studied music at Berklee College of
Music in Boston, MA and obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from Seton Hall University and a Master
Certificate in Music Business and Technology from Berklee College of Music where he graduated
with High Honors.

Throughout his music career, Chris had the opportunity to study under music teachers and mentors
such as Jim Leahey (son of jazz great, Harry Leahey), Jazz guitarist John Harrity and Berklee
professor Robin Stone. Chris began teaching Music at Hillsborough High School in Hillsborough, NJ,
as an assistant percussion instructor under Brian Wheeler and received accolades in regional
competitions and championships.

Christopher worked as an audio engineer for keyboardist and record producer David Rosenthal
(Billy Joel) and session drummer Jonathon Mover (Joe Satriani) in recording studios throughout the
metropolitan area and is an advanced user of Apple's Logic Studio and Propellerhead's Reason. On
the business side of music, Chris's professional experience ranges from A&M Records and
IdolMakerz Entertainment to C&D Artist Management.

Working in the areas of A&R, publicity, radio promotions and management additional credits include
records by artist's Fat Joe, Ice-T, Cassidy and Jamie Drastik. Christopher's performance expertise
includes genres such as Rock, Jazz and Pop and can usually be found writing and recording music
for a multitude of artists, including his songwriting partnership company, It Factor Music. Whether
he is playing guitar, bass, keyboards or producing and arranging, Christopher brings a multitude of
experience and excitement to his profession. Christopher began teaching with Music Notes
Academy in February of 2008.
Teachers
Sean graduated from The College of New Jersey with a Bachelor's degree in Music
Education. Sean is a member of the Music Educators National Conference (MENC) and New
Jersey Music Educators Association (NJMEA). Sean has taught instrumental music in New
Jersey public school districts including Paramus, Ridgewood, Hackensack and Morristown.
An experienced teacher of saxophone, clarinet, strings, piano and music composition,
Sean is also a conductor and is the music and artistic director of The Glen Rock Pops.

A composer of merit and with seven completed symphonies, Sean has additionally
composed, transcribed and arranged repertoire for bands, orchestras and various
chamber ensembles and solo compositions. His compositions and arrangements have
been performed and recorded by the Paramus High School Orchestra, community bands in
Bergan County, New Jersey, including the Teaneck Community Band and The Glen Rock
Pops.

A distinguished member of ASCAP, Sean has written various scores for several
independent films such as
Save and Once in a Full Moon. Mr. Ryan recently completed the
music for the independent film
One Angry Man starring legendary comedian Jackie Mason.

Angela graduated with a Masters of Music in Voice Performance from Rutgers University. A member
of the Franco American Vocal Academy, Angela performed in two French Melodie recitals and
performed as Ninetta in the
Opera du Perigord's production of La Perichole.

Angela's teaching includes stints with FAVA - as part of the faculty she performs solo recitals and is
the program's voice teacher in their summer program in France. Additionally, Angela has instructed
voice at various community music schools for over seven years, including Rutgers University. Angela
joined Music Notes Academy in November of 2009 and teaches voice and piano at our East
Brunswick, NJ school.
Brandon Kurzawa, has been teaching music, specializing in percussion, piano and guitar,
since 1999. Mr. Kurzawa, Music Notes Academy's Founder and Director, has successfully
prepared students for Jazz Band auditions, NJ Regions and All-State Auditions, MEA piano
evaluations, student recitals and performances, and has instructed percussion
ensembles, rock bands and university master classes specializing in percussion. Mr.
Kurzawa was additionally an adjunct professor of music production and audio engineering
from 2007 - 2009. As an adjunct professor, he taught classes in audio production, audio
engineering and music production.

Brandon studied music at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, obtained a Bachelor of
Arts in Music, specializing in music performance, from Rutgers University and a Masters of
Arts in Education, specializing in curriculum, instruction and computer education from
University of Phoenix. A member of NJ Music Educators Association (NJMEA), The National
Association for Music Education (MENC) and Percussive Arts Society (PAS), Brandon is an
educational endorsee and contributor for Vic Firth, Inc., the largest manufacturer of
drumsticks and mallets. Brandon has recorded with singer Amanda Avila (2005 American
Idol contestant, Smokey Robinson), acclaimed singer-songwriter Anthony Krizan (Lenny
Kravitz, The Spin Doctors) and performs as a freelance musician throughout the New York
metropolitan area. In 2009, Brandon became a sponsored artist for Shine Drums.

Nicole Tegge received her Bachelor's of Music Business from Monmouth University.
Additionally studying guitar, music theory and song writing for over ten years, Nicole has
earned nominations such as "Top 25 New & Upcoming Songs" from college radio stations as
well as "Song of the Day" for her original compositions.

Nicole has created several successful original bands that were featured in issues of Billboard
Magazine and has worked with Seventeen Magazine and Z100 radio station. Additionally,
performances have included sharing the stage with national acts such as Drama Rama and
Laura Warshauer.

Nicole continues her success by performing in rock, R&B, reggae and contemporary bands as
well as musical productions such as
Oliver Twist. Nicole has also worked for Def Jam of
Universal Music Group and has been teaching music, specifically guitar lessons, for over six
years to students of various ages and ability levels.

Ms. Stephanie started studying and playing piano when she was only
three years old and then began clarinet at ten years old. Throughout
high school Stephanie was a four year member of CJMEA Region Band
and NJMEA All State Band, performing in competitions, evaluations and
performances as a soloist. Since graduating, she has been an active
performance assistant and accompanist for her band directors.

Stephanie has studied piano extensively with MeiChih Tsai, a certified
Yamaha music teacher, in Taiwan; and Donald Dolan, Westminster
Conservatory faculty; and clarinet with Kenneth Ellison, Westminster
College faculty; Maureen Hurd, Rutgers University faculty and Conn-
Selmer artist; and Jessica Phillips, performer with The Metropolitan
Opera, Philadelphia Orchestra, American Symphony, among others.

Stephanie is completing her Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education at
Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University. As an active
member of MENC, Stephanie performs in various ensembles including
Wind Ensemble, Symphony Band and Sinfonia and has experience
teaching instrumental music to students of various ages at local school
districts, both privately and in group classes. Stephanie is a welcomed
addition to Music Notes Academy and began teaching piano and
clarinet in October of 2010.

Master of Arts in Teaching from Montclair State University. Stephen began
playing piano in Kindergarten and has been playing guitar for nearly 20 years.

With several years of teaching experience, Stephen has worked with students of
various ages, ranging from preschool through college. During his tenure as an
educator, Stephen successfully created and implemented a number of different

Andy has been playing drums professionally since the age of thirteen. He has been teaching for
studios in New Jersey and privately for over ten years. In addition to drum set, he has experience
teaching hand drums, assorted percussion and piano. In 2003, Andy received his bachelor degree in
music from Rutgers University.

Andy has extensive experience teaching music from beginner students as young as five years old, to
experienced players as old as sixty-five. Andy generates excitement about music in his students and
gets them to be as creative and productive as possible. Andy studied with drummers Ralph Peterson
Jr. and Tommy Igoe. In 2001, Andy became a principal musical dance accompanist for the Rutgers
University Dance Department on hand drums, percussion, piano and drum set, under the direction of

In 2005, Andy was the musical director or an original musical theater production, which he composed, arranged and orchestrated, for
Palisades Park High School in New Jersey. He was involved in rehearsing the musical numbers with the singers, as well as conducting
the orchestra. Andy enjoyed working with and training the talented high school students.

Andy has many years of experience performing drums live and in the studio. From 1999 to 2002, he recorded two albums with
groups for independent Chicago record label Fresh Produce Records. In 2009, he co-produced a recording for his own original rock
group in New Jersey. In addition, he has played drums on seven independently produced studio recordings since 1997. Over the
past seventeen years, Andy has performed as a freelance drummer in clubs, music halls, music festivals, casinos, schools, private
events, weddings, bars and restaurants. Since 2002, Andy has toured with several original rock and pop acts in over twenty states
across the US. He is currently busy performing as a freelance drummer for several original and cover bands in New Jersey and the
New York area. Andy joined Music Notes Academy in September of 2011 as a percussion and piano teacher.
A native of South Korea, pianist Dr. Sohee L. gained significant
international experiences as a piano soloist performing at noted
venues in Munich, Germany where she finished her "Aufbau-studium"
and Salzburg, Austria where she received her "Grosses Diploma;
Master of Art". Sohee has participated in prestigious international
master classes and festivals and her performances have been
recognized by famous pianists like Germaine Mounier and Hans Laygraf.

After graduating with "Ausgezeichnet-Highest Honor" from Mozarteum
University Sohee's endless passion and energy towards music made
her venture to the United States. During the last five years she has
collaborated with many singers and instrumentalists at the Mason
Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ.
Rick was born and raised in Rochester, NY. He started playing drums at 11 years old. A
couple of years later while playing in local bands he met Vinnie Ruggiero  - the best
drummer in Rochester who later brought him to his house where he met Steve Gadd,
Philly Joe Jones, Art Blakey, Elvin Jones and Tony Williams.

Rick learned how to play drums by hanging out with these guys, listening and watching
them play. They were his first teachers and later they became great friends. One of his
first major gigs was with B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Jack McDuff and Richard "Groove" Holmes.
Later he attended Eastman school of Music, NY and Syracuse University, NY eventually
obtaining a master's degree in music.

After College Rick moved to NYC where he started playing and recording with Chuck
Mangione, Art Farmer, Harvey Swartz, Whitney Houston, Paul Butterfield, Bonnie Raitt,
Eddie Gomez, Michael Brecker, Jaco Pastorius to name a few... While living in NYC he
started teaching at Drummer's Collective. His unique style of teaching "real world"
applications and techniques that he used while playing with people made him stand out
from other teachers. In a same time he got an endorsement at Zildjian Cymbal Company
and Vic Firth Drumsticks Company.

While doing clinics for Zildjian Rick played a master class at Berklee College of Music in
Boston, MA. The chair of the Percussion Department asked Rick to "sub" for one semester
for a one faculty member... At the end of the semester Rick had so many requests from
students that Berklee offered him a permanent teaching position. Rick taught there for 20
years maintain
ing a full schedule. During the same time he was playing and recording with
Boston's best musicians Diana Krall, Al Kooper, The Either Orchestra, Tierney Sutton, Duke
Robbilard and Ronnie Earl to name a few.

Ms. Marge has been making and studying music since she was four years old. She has
participated in advanced choral singing since she was five and has been playing the piano
since she was seven. Marge has wanted to teach music since middle school and began
composing and arranging during high school. Marge has sung with world renowned choirs,
such as the Gettysburg College Choir and the Westminster Chamber Choir, and has
toured in over seven different countries. Marge continues to perform with the Harmonium
Choral Society and Chamber Choir and has recently performed solos in major works
including Monteverdi’s Magnificat and Carissimi’s Jepthe.

Marge has been teaching music privately and in the classroom for over six years. She
graduated from Gettysburg College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Music Education.
While at Gettysburg, Marge began teaching voice and piano lessons, as well as weekly general music classes at the Adams County
Head Start Program. Marge developed a great interest in early-childhood music education, and since graduation she has continued
to teach music classes in pre-schools all over central Jersey.

Marge has and continues to develop music-making opportunities for young students, providing flexible and versatile learning
environments to suit student needs and guide in the discovery of music’s endless possibilities.

An in-demand session musician and teacher, Pete has studied with many of the world’s
top bass players. In addition to his independent studies at Berklee College of Music, Pete
has studied with Victor Wooten, Chuck Rainey, Adam Nitti and has attended master
classes with Marcus Miller and Alphonso Johnson.

Pete has been teaching guitar and bass guitar for the last 5 years on Long Island and in
New York City. Currently, you can see him playing such venues as Rockwood Music Hall in
Manhattan and Spike Hill in Brooklyn, with such acts as up-and-coming rock band The
Amsterdam News and singer/songwriter Annie Fitzgerald. Pete’s performing highlights
include opening the Gathering of the Vibes festival in 2004, featuring James Brown,
Michael Franti and Spearhead, Gov’t Mule and the Allman Brothers. After his recent
appearance on Fox Television's "Huckabee," Gov. Mike Huckabee, a bass player himself,
said "You should give me some lessons on the bass." Pete has recorded four albums in
the last year for NYC talent.

Through performing as a solo artist, collaborating with other artists and teaching music to
the next generation of musicians, Pete aspires to advance the contribution of bass guitar
and guitar in popular music. Pete began teaching at Music Notes Academy in September
2011.

Gary Shur is studying always to be a reed doubler on saxophone, clarinet and flute. As a
graduate of Montclair State University where he earned his Bachelors Degree in Music
Education, Gary has been trained to teach students on a multitude of wind and percussion
instruments. Gary has taught instrumental music and marching bands in numerous towns
across the state. Mostly recently Gary finished up teaching middle and high school band
and music theory in Kinnelon's public schools. Currently Gary is the Assistant Marching
Band Director at Hanover Park High School in East Hanover, NJ.

Outside the classroom, Gary enjoys performing with various concert bands, community
bands and theater companies. Over the course of time in the education and music fields,
Gary was a member of several professional organizations such as National Association for
Music Educators (NAfME), Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia and the American Society of Composers,
Authors and Publishers (ASCAP). In the near future, Gary will soon be beginning his
Masters Degree in Music Performance to further his education and increase his ability to
communicate with his students. Gary joined MNA in January of 2012.
Elaine began playing viola at the age of nine. She was accepted into the Intermediate Regions
Orchestra and while in high school she was accepted into the Greater Princeton Youth Orchestra. She
attended the John J. Cali School of Music, at Montclair State University, with a concentration in Music
Education, where she was President of the A.S.T.A. chapter for two years.

Elaine has been a member of the Freelance Ensemble Artists of NJ since 2007 and joined the Tim Keyes
Consort in 2008 where she received the Jean and Francis Poltorak Music Scholarship. Also in 2008, she
performed in The Death of the Ball Turret Gunner, a play shown at New York City's International Fringe
Festival. The following year she began teaching private strings lessons, theory classes and coaching
chamber ensembles at Montclair State University's Preparatory Center for the Arts.

Most recently, Elaine has been performing with a jazz group called Community of the Spirit at various
venues in New York City and performing music for wedding ceremonies. Elaine joined MNA in January of
2012 and will be integral in expanding the strings department.
